GLOBAL PRODUCTION NETWORKS: A LITERATURE REVIEW AND EMPIRICAL ILLUSTRATION
Abstract
The literature known as global production networks (GPNs) has gained international prominence for having an analytical approach capable of examining the relationship between firms configured in value chains, firms’ upgrading and regional development. Developed by researchers from the Manchester School of Geography, such a literature has not received much attention in Brazil. In this sense, this article aims at bringing a literature review of the approach known as GPNs 2.0, presenting some of its main axes of analysis. To exemplify such an approach, the case of Embraer's global aeronautical production network and the governance of São José dos Campos aeronautical industrial cluster will be explored.
