Abstract

The practice of associating with another individuals or groups is a legacy of humanity's sedentary process, which, in the midst of adversity, has become a strategy to ensure social reproduction. In contemporary times, associativism has multiplied, making possible the creation of different typologies. The Territory of Sisal, where the municipality of Serrinha is located (in the state of Bahia (BA)/Brazil), has been distinguishing itself for the construction of a dense associativist network, with emphasis on rural community associations and/or production associations. These entities are dedicated to improving the living conditions and social reproduction of peasant farmers. This paper analyzes the Association of Residents of the Recanto Community (in Portuguese, AMCR), located in the village of Recanto, in Serrinha, Brazil, and aims to identify the activities developed by the organization and its impacts on the community's daily life. As a case study, field research was carried out, accompanied by systematic observation, with written and photographic records. In addition, questionnaires were applied to members and interviews were conducted with members of the association's board of directors. The results of the research reveal an important role of the AMCR in the community, responsible for mobilizing residents, facilitating access to basic health, education and infrastructure services, promoting partnerships with the State and other civil society organizations and building economic-productive alternatives for the Recanto community.
