A CATEDRAL DIOCESANA CRISTO REI: AS MARCAS DA TERRITORIALIZAÇÃO CATÓLICA, EM CORNÉLIO PROCÓPIO (PR)
Abstract
The Cristo Rei Parish, initially installed in the place considered ground zero of Cornélio Procópio's urban space - Praça Brasil - at the end of the 1930s was characterized as a simple construction. In the forties, when its location changed to another point in the central area of the city, it received a more imposing architectural building. From then on, its influence on the organization and dynamics became increasingly noticeable, especially in 1973 when it was transformed into the Diocesan Cathedral of Christ the King. The article aims to highlight the articulation between its ecclesiastical power and the development of the urban fabric, identifying the marks and symbols of the religious phenomenon produced in the territory. Methodologically, the work has a bibliographic survey based on the theme of analysis, fieldwork carried out in August 2017, two interviews, the first granted by the current parish priest Orisvaldo José Caladro, on August 24, 2017, and the second carried out with a priest of the Diocese of Cornélio Procópio, on April 26, 2022, with some notes on current issues in the study area. In this sense, in the present study, one of the several analytical possibilities of the religious phenomenon in its articulation with territorial organization is weaved, which is an approach from the bias of geography to the understanding of the religious territoriality of this ecclesiastical temple.
