THE SMALL TOWNS OF MINAS GERAIS: TYPOLOGY
Abstract
Large cities have always been the object of theoretical reflections on the urban aspect. More recently, middle-sized cities, whose progress has, in many cases, surpassed those of the big cities, have pointed to a new era for the Brazilian geographic and socioeconomic dynamics. The small towns, however, in spite of being spread all around the country and playing a very important role in the socioeconomic life of the country, including the small towns in Minas Gerais, require further attention. Bearing in mind the statements above, the purpose of this study is to present the spatialization map of the small towns of Minas Gerais, based on the typology developed by Corrêa (2011), and, consequently, contribute to the theoretical reflection on them.
