Abstract
This study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the impacts of Chinese investments in Mozambique, highlighting the significance of this phenomenon in the country's socio-economic development. The rationale for the research lies in China's growing influence on the international stage, particularly in the Global South, and the need to understand how this presence affects Mozambique. The objectives of this work are to elucidate the dynamics of Sino-Mozambican relations, identify the economic and political impacts of Chinese investments, and contribute to a critical understanding of the ongoing development. The adopted methodology integrates a review of academic literature, focusing on studies of foreign investments in Africa with an emphasis on Mozambique, and documentary analysis, encompassing bilateral agreements, economic and political reports, as well as official documents from both governments. The results highlight patterns and trends in the impacts of Chinese investments in Mozambique, considering both economic and political aspects. Literature analysis revealed previously unexplored gaps and challenges, while the documentary review provided an in-depth understanding of the policies and agreements governing these investments. It is concluded that Chinese presence is redefining power dynamics in the Global South, shifting the center of influence to new players. Economic impacts, including GDP growth and job creation, are undeniable, but political and social challenges emerge that require attention. A critical understanding of Sino-Mozambican relations is essential to guide future policy decisions and promote equitable and sustainable development in Mozambique. This study contributes to existing literature by filling gaps in the understanding of the impacts of Chinese investments in Mozambique and providing valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders involved in these complex development dynamics.
