THE ONES THAT WILL GO AND THE ONES THAT STAY: YOUNG PEOPLE MOBILITY IN SETTLEMENT AREAS IN PARAÍBA'S STATE
Abstract
This is work has as objective study the relation between rural settlement and migration, giving emphasis the migrant perspective of the young people in settlement areas. For its accomplishment, besides the bibliographical research it accomplished raising of secondary data in INCRA( Brazilian organ of Land Reform) and to the IBGE (Brazilian institute of Geography and Statistical) and an extensive field research in five Paraiba's municipal districts and in seven settlement areas involving 42 young and her respective families. The work is structured in two analyses axes beside the introduction and of the final considerations. The first does a literature revision on the basic categories that orientate the study: territory, settlement and migration. The second presents the result of field research analyzing the migrant question in the settlement areas in Paraiba giving emphasis the migrant perspective of the rural young people. It verified that in spite of the settlement politics be directed to the population fixation in the field, a part of the settlers, mostly the young people, presents the wish of migrate in search of life and work best opportunities outside the settlement. The main verification, however, is the one of that the settlement creation, spite all the problems that they face to if consolidate inside a territory dominated by the capital, constitutes undeniably a population important fixation factor and of the young people in the field. The research demonstrates that the young settlers great majority do not intend to go out from the land in which they live.
