Abstract

The research has developed as centrality to analyze the process of appropriation of the subsoil, (re) organization of work and territorial disputes in the mining of diamonds in Coromandel - Minas Gerais. The methodology is based on qualitative research in geography, with an emphasis on procedures such as literature, field research, observation and interviews. In recent years, the territories and the historic gold mining activity in the county were affected by new territoriality. Changes in environmental legislation and mining, prospecting and interdiction of unemployment, actions of private companies, ownership and control of the subsoil organization of miners into cooperatives and unions, mechanization, contractual relationships wage, specialization and fragmentation of work are elements that express significant changes in diamond mining in Coromandel-MG. Given this process, the territory becomes a central category for understanding the materiality and immateriality of conflict diamonds in the mines.
