Abstract

This article is grounded in interdisciplinary work involving three departments of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, to build a model for financial compensation to family agriculture properties, being highlighted in the scope of this article the use of GIS tools for organizing this model. The payment for environmental services for small farmers becomes a prerogative important when it comes to qualitative conservation of our waters, forests and maintaining food security for the generations of today and tomorrow. The financial compensation is surrounds promises to preserve ecosystems that become essential to preserving the quality of life for humans and the biological life of our planet, serving as a way to encourage environmental preservation activities reconciling conservation with income generation in rural areas. In this context, the following study helped to develop a model for financial compensation, offering the potential of GIS for the Centro de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria of the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria that with the knowledge acquired within the Accounting Sciences if could determine the amount of compensation payable to farmers who maintain conservation areas on their properties. The model for financial compensation for the environmental preservation was developed and validated by applying on a family farm through field research and information from the GIS tools.
