Abstract
Humanistic Geography consolidates, in fact, in the early 1970s, between a context of changing in cultural and political standards, it professes the human subjectivity and the appreciation of the Earth's environment, with the use of phenomenological contribution to understand of the world we live. This introduction of phenomenology in geographical thought leads to recognition and exaltation of the concept of place as essential in the new humanistic perspective that until that moment was a secondary discipline, aiming thus the understanding of this human world, their feelings and thoughts and their geographical behavior. In this bulge, the theoretical study concerns the concepts of place and symbol; it intends a better understanding of these important categories for a more human geography. From an humanistic perspective, a line of studies that values personal relationships between individuals, social groups, and their environment, considering the geographical experiences of each human being and the earth as the home of these people, besides the fact that people through their understanding establish dominance and affectivity ties with their places.Downloads
