THE NATURAL VALUES OF CONSERVATION UNITS OF RECIFE: FOREST OF DOIS IRMÃOS AND FOREST OF ENGENHO UCHÔA

Abstract

This article brings the discussion of the natural heritage assets' conservation within the urban areas. It seeks to comprehend the landscape of the city of Recife's Conservation Units, taking into consideration the identification of the peculiar natural attributes that gives it patrimonial value and validate its meaningfulness. As a study object, the Conservation Units (UC) Dois Irmãos State park and Wildlife refuge of the mill Uchôa woods is analyzed. Identifying the meaningfulness of an asset is a primordial step in the conservation process, contributing to the construction of management and intervention tools, safeguarding the Natural patrimony. Through the ''content analysis'' method applied in the speech of the managers and specialists, residents and to the Management Plan, it became possible to understand and compare the perceptions about the Conservation Units that revealed the following values: Biodiversity, Geodiversity, Ecological, Scientific, Ambiental Services and Esthetic. In the context of the crescent urbanization of peripheral areas in the city of Recife, the study is inserted within the current discussions about conservation and urban sustentability, construing the theoretical and conceptual bases of the patrimonial letters, refferencing them about the importance of these natural fragments in the improvement of the ambiental quality in the city of Recife and metropolitan region.
