REFLECTIONS ON NEOTECTONISM IN THE STATE OF PARANÁ
Abstract
Brazil, for a long time, was treated as an atectonic territory, due to the fact that it is located on the central region of the South American Plate, far from the active borders. However, several evidences have been gathered that demonstrate that Brazil has geological and geomorphological records of recent tectonic activity, not to mention the countless seismic records recorded daily by seismographs within the territory. However, Paraná is still a state that has little conclusive evidence of neotectonic activity. Therefore, this article brings a reflection on the subject, where the models of structural evolution of the Sedimentary Basin of Paraná are approached and how the studies on neotectonics within the State still lack structural analyzes that are compatible with these models. Although some studies have already advanced in this regard, the absence of deformations in Quaternary sediments and the absence of dating methods in fault zones leave gaps on the neotectonics in the State of Paraná. There are also certain divergences in the paleotension models, which must be reevaluated. However, the various evidences of relief and drainage anomalies that have already been recorded can only be explained by a more recent deforming tectonism.
