GRAFFITI AND COMMUTING
THE CASE OF THE METROPOLITAN REGION OF BELO HORIZONTE-MG (RMBH-MG), BRAZIL
Abstract
Metropolises and metropolization mix aspects of physical and symbolic integration (material and immaterial), according to main connections. This influences flows that involve people and symbolic/cultural aspects. The graffiti (being cultural) enables the understanding of urban processes and forms, being a product of agents that merge with commuting movements. Thus, the purpose is to analyze the spatial movement of graffiti artists operating in the main corridors connecting Belo Horizonte, Contagem, Ribeirão das Neves, Ibirité and Nova Lima, which were highlighted by their commuting. The methodology was based on primary and secondary data collection, their treatment and the preparation of maps and tables. Therefore, the graffiti artists are located on the roads with the greatest integration and flows (following hierarchies), mainly commuting, of passers-by and buses, in addition to the areas with the greatest number of mixed functions. The possibility of using an innovative and alternative indicator of commuting is highlighted: the graffiti.
