CARACTERIZAÇÃO DEMOGRÁFICA E URBANA DE MUNICÍPIOS DA REGIÃO IMEDIATA DE PARANAVAÍ E OS ESTUDOS DESENVOLVIDOS NO PGE
Abstract
The Immediate Region of Paranavaí, located in the state of Paraná, Brazil, stands out as
a dynamic interweaving of urban, agricultural, and environmental areas. Comprising a variety of cities
and municipalities, this region presents a complex scenario of socio-economic interactions, where urban
development intertwines with agricultural activities, revealing a landscape with particularities compared
to the northern Paraná region as a whole. Paranavaí polarizes part of Paraná with significantly
differentiated environmental aspects, primarily characterized by sandy soils resulting from the Caiuá
Sandstone. This difference is fundamental to understanding the contemporary landscape marked by
pastures, sugarcane, orange, cassava, among various other economic endeavors following the coffee
crisis. This article aims to present the current composition of the urban network in this region,
highlighting the predominance of small towns/locations, recent demographic trends based on data
already released by the 2022 Census, as well as identifying ongoing studies in this area, seeking gaps
and challenges. The methodological procedures mainly included secondary data collection, repository
work from the Postgraduate Program, and relevant theoretical reviews. Overall, the region draws
attention to the demographic condition of small towns/locations, as the first results released regarding
the total population from the 2022 Census show a context of demographic decline. The findings from
the studies reveal the need for an expansion of research on the regional socio-spatial reality, which could
provide a better understanding and, consequently, enhance planning in various aspects as well as
management.
