Abstract

Since the dawn of humanity, knowledge of where we live has always been an important aspect of survival. Thus cartography arises, which was the first form of registration developed by Homo sapiens. As time went by, inquiries and curiosity increased and the human began to ask what the world was like. Thus, ideas about the shape of the Earth and its relationship with celestial bodies began to emerge. Initially, it was believed in a flat Earth with different shapes. Some people mentioned it to be a disc-shaped, others believed it was a rectangle. Until in the Old Age, the first arguments about the spherical shape of the Earth arose, culminating with an important work carried out by Eratosthenes, when he managed to measure the Earth's circumference with unbelievable precision. This text briefly addresses some historical facts that contributed to forming the knowledge we have today about the shape of the Earth.
