PERCEPTION OF TUTORS REGARDING CLINICAL SIGNS BEFORE AND AFTER RHINOPLASTY IN BRACHYPHALIC DOGS WITH NOSTRIL STENOSIS
Abstract
A prospective questionnaire containing objective questions about the occurrence and frequency of clinical signs related to brachycephalic syndrome was presently applied to 26 brachycephalic dogs with nostril stenosis, before and 30 days after rhinoplasty. The signs investigated were: coughing, sneezing, reverse sneezing, choking, dysphagia, snoring awake, snoring during sleep and exercise intolerance. Thirty days after rhinoplasty, there was a significant reduction in the occurrence of all signs: snoring at sleep 26 (100%) for 18 (69.2%); Exercise intolerance 25 (96.2%) to 10 (38.5%); 25 (96.2%) to 14 (53.8%); Agreed snoring 21 (80.7%) to 16 (61.5%), choking 21 (80.7%) to 8 (30.8%); reverse sneeze 18 (69.2%) to 7 (26.9%); Cough 17 (65.4%) to 6 (23%); Dysphagia 14 (53.8%) to 3 (11.5%). This conclusion that there was a reduction in the frequency and occurrence of clinical signs in brachycephalic dogs with nostril stenosis after rhinoplasty. The use of questionnaires addressed to the tutor proved to be a useful tool in the evaluation of the clinical symptomatology evolution before and after rhinoplasty and response to the surgical treatment of brachycephalic syndrome.
