COMPARATIVE MORPHOMETRICS OF THE QUADRATE BONE OF BIRDS OF THE ORDERS APODIFORMES, PASSERIFORMES, STRIGIFORMES, COLUMBIFORMES AND NYCTIBIIFORMES
Résumé
Brazil is home to many birds worldwide and to know the anatomical aspects of this Class of vertebrates is of great value for the identification of species. Due to the importance in the kinetics of cranial movements of birds, square bone was chosen for this work for descriptive anatomical studies. To do this, the square bones of 12 animals were removed from eight different species of birds, among males, females and undetermined sex, who died from natural causes and were donated to the Animal Anatomy Laboratory of the Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) - Sector Palotina. The distances between the three processes present in these bones were measured and the particularities of the species were analyzed. Thus, with the measured data, a contribution to the anatomy of the square bone of the species and basis for studies of comparative anatomy is obtained, even if initially
