Seismic response control of a plane frame using viscous dampers
Abstract
This present study consists of comparing the dynamic response of a steel building modeled as a flat frame when subjected to a real seismic excitation, both in scenarios without control and with passive control. Passive control is implemented through an energy dissipation strategy using viscous dampers, devices added externally to the structure. The results show that viscous damping applied to the structure significantly reduces the dynamic response in terms of displacement, achieving a reduction of around 70% throughout the seismic event.
