The reproductive cycle of Plagioscion squamosissimus which takes place in the summer season, November through February, was characterized by intermittent spawning. Twenty-four centimeters was the estimated medium length at the first sexual or gonad maturation for both males and females. Specimens heavier and longer than at the first sexual maturation displayed a lower fertility rate than smaller ones, which was attributed to the adaptation to freshwater reproduction. It was verified that the right ovary is smaller than the left one and contains fewer ovocytes whose growth proved to be similar in both ovaries.Downloads
