This work describes the histopatology of the infection of Parauchenipterus galeatus (Linnaeus, 1766) by digenetic Microrchis oligovitellum Lunaschi, 1987. The parasite attaches to the host’s intestine by its sucker causing the destruction of the intestine mucosa, besides stretching and compressing the adjacent areas. The infection is supposed to cause a reduction of the nutritional state of the host and in case of severe parasitosis the eventual blockage of the intestine is likely to happen in small-sized hosts. This is the first record of M. oligovitellum in P. galeatus.Downloads
