The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic behavior of five common tomato cultivars (Ângela I.5100, Floradade, IPA-05, Jumbo AG-592 e Santa Clara) and their diallel hybrids evaluated by ten morphological characteristics of tomato plants and five tomato fruit features. The estimation of phenotypic variance, genotypic variance, environmental variance, genotypic coefficient of determination, genotypic coefficient of variation and variation index resulted in a favorable situation for a breeding program aiming to improve the soluble solid rate and betacarotene and vitamin C contents. Higher lines may be obtained from Floridade cultivar white Santa Clara x Ângela I. 5100, Santa Clara x Floridade, Ângela I. 5100 x Floridade are promising combinations for interpopulational improvement through multiple reciprocal crossing.Downloads
