PRODUCTION OF cv. <em>MUNDO NOVO</em> COFFEE (<em>Coffea arabica</em> L.) IN PLASTIC TUBES
Abstract
Coffee seedling is one of the most important agents which disseminate nemathodes causing serious hazard to Brazilian coffee plantation. Traditionally, coffee seedlings are grown in polyethylene bags containing soil as substrate which is a source of nemathodes and other soil pathogens. An experiment was carried out in Universidade Estadual de Londrina, State of Paraná, in 1993, to investigate the growing of coffee seedlings in polyethylene tubules, which has been successfuly employed in Eucaliptus sp. seedling production. The treatments were obtained by the combination of NPK doses, diluted in water, and frequencies of fertirrigation. The earthworm compost with 20% of carbonized ricestraw was used as substrate. The statistical results showed that it is possible to produce coffee seedlings with the following advantages: reduction up to 90% of substrate volume; reduction of costs with sanitary treatments of substrate; savings in the acquisition of sterile substrate, as well as practicability in transport and handling of the seedlings.Downloads
