Abstract

The present work constitutes an introductory study about the itinerant theater, its development in western civilization, emphasizing its presence in the Brazilian culture, specially in the gaucha one, considering the history of the Theater Serelepe. The history of this group starts in the countryside of São Paulo in 1929 following the Brazilian social transformations. It aims to establish relations among the itinerant theater, the conservation and the transmission of the popular memory of the country emphasizing the importance of those mountebanks that visits our territory.
