Representations of the Indian Goddess and the manifestation of the sacred Hindu feminine in Brazil

Abstract

This research seeks to analyze religious representations linked to the Indian Goddess known as Durga and identify feminist patterns in mythology linked to the sacred feminine. The research focuses on the field of present-day history, which allows us to observe the various religious manifestations that are involved in symbolic disputes and are perpetuated through power relations in post-modernity. The cult of the Indian Goddess is known as Shakatism, it is a doctrine of veneration of Hindu female deities, personified in several goddesses, in this aspect female religious representations are attributed with being creators of all reality. Thus, Vedic texts that circulate in the West as an instrument that guides a spiritual aspect draw our attention. One of the hymns known as Devi Mahatmaya, is an important text of worship to the great goddess, often recited in temples or by her devotees.
