In Culture Makes Sense: Orientations Between Yesterday and Tomorrow, Jörn Rüsen proposes a profound reflection on how societies construct cultural meaning, exploring the relationship between past, present and future. The author is a German historian who seeks to understand how cultural narratives shape collective identity and historical perception. Released here in Brazil by Vozes in 2014, the book is structured in 4 chapters and their subdivisions: Chapter I: Appropriations of tradition, sees Rüsen analyzing how different historical periods reinterpret past traditions, highlighting the importance of collective memory in cultural formation. Chapter II: Impulses of theoretical thought, where the author examines how philosophical theories influence cultural and historical understanding, emphasizing the need for a critical and reflective approach. Chapter III: Culture of science, in which Rüsen discusses the role of science in cultural construction, addressing how scientific knowledge interacts with cultural and social practices. And chapter IV: Potentialities in the formation of meaning in which the author explores the possibilities of cultural transformation, suggesting paths for a more inclusive and dynamic understanding of culture.
