“Praça de Guerra” e a luta contra a exclusão social durante a Ditadura Militar na Paraíba

Abstract

This article analyzes the actions of the Capim-Açu Guerrilla movement, which took place in 1969 in the city of Catolé do Rocha, through the short film Praça de Guerra (2015) by Edmilson Gomes Júnior. The aim of this analysis is to broaden perspectives on the actions of regional resistance against the civil-military dictatorship in the interior of Paraíba. Thus, based on the work, we intend to explore representations of student resistance, the forms of repression present in the period, as well as the characterization of the so-called "subversives." Through the perspective of Cultural History, we seek to understand how the documentary reconstructs experiences of social exclusion and resistance practices through narrative and visual elements. The work uses qualitative methodology, using film analysis and documentary research as tools, supported by authors such as Roger Chartier, Marc Ferro, and Sandra Pesavento. The discussion also discusses the concept of armed struggle and seeks to foster a historical debate anchored in the construction of collective memory and the experiences lived during the regime, seeking to intertwine the study of the civil-military dictatorship with a regional perspective, reconfiguring the social imagination about the dictatorial period in the Paraíba backlands.
