Um olhar crítico a respeito do conceito de liberdade na revista Visão (1980-1981)

Abstract

The magazine Visão after 1974 directed its ideological line to the defense of the free market and the values ​​of liberal economics. This change of direction occurred due to its new owner, Henry Maksoud, being a supporter of the ideas of economist Friedrich A. von Hayek, one of the main theorists of neoliberalism. In this context, the article investigates how the concept of freedom is treated in the magazine's editorials in the 1980s and 1981s. The decision to analyze the concept of freedom is derived from the potential that the keyword has in the narrative that forms the idea of ​​free enterprise of subjects in the economic field, being one of the central points of neoliberal thinking in the following years. The central point is to criticize the way the concept is discussed by Henry Maksoud, since the hypothesis is that the hegemonic discourse of private capital hides in the defense of the idea of ​​economic freedom. In view of the object of study, the article uses the concept of hegemony extracted from Antonio Gramsci to understand the hegemonic position of Henry Maksoud and the way he uses his magazine to disseminate the desires of the national business community. Other authors are used to reflect on ideology and the interrelationships of elites with the government, I cite: István Mészáros; Andrew Heywood, John Kenneth Galbraith, among others.
