Abstract

This article discusses rainfall variability, periodicity, cyclicality and tendencies in the state of São Paulo over the last 106 years as a contribution to the study of regional climatic changes. Total monthly rainfall data collected at 396 pluviometric stations of the Water and Power Department (WPD - DAEE) were treated statistically with special emphasis on moveable averages calculations. The results led to the conclusion that the period analyzed presented a regular periodicity and cyclicality between rainy and dry seasons, and that there was a significant increase (10% to 12%) of rainfall in almost all parts of the state of São Paulo over the period investigated.

João Lima Sant'Anna Neto, UNESP

Graduado em Geografia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1980), mestre e doutor em Geografia (Geografia Física) pela USP (1990 e 1995). Atualmente é professor adjunto, livre docente (2001) pela Universidade Estadual Paulista. Atua no programa de Pós-graduação da UNESP/PP, colabora em projetos de pesquisa do Instituto Geológico do Estado de São Paulo. É assessor científico da FAPESP, da FUNDUNESP e da Associação Brasileira de Climatologia. Desenvolve pesquisas nas áreas de Climatologia aplicada, principalmente nos temas de variabilidade e mudanças climáticas e riscos socio-ambientais voltados í gestão do território. Tem experiência na área de Geografia e Geociências, com ênfase em Climatologia Geográfica Currículo Lattes
