Abstract
Under nursery conditions, the diseases which mostly affect the Eucalyptus seedlings are damping-off and cutting rot for rooting, caused by Cylindrocladium clavatum. The mechanism of attack of this pathogen is not completely understood, but it is known that phytotoxins and exoenzymes, produced by phytopathogenic fungi, are important in host penetration and colonization. Thus, the objectives of this investigation were to demonstrate the in vitro production of cellulolytic enzymes and toxic metabolites of C. clavatum in E. urophylla seedlings. Results showed that cellulase produced by fungus is a multienzymatic complex consisting of two endo and three exo ß-1,4 glucanases and one ß-glucosidase, and that C. clavatum can produce such in vitro enzymes when cultivated in different substrates. The presence of toxic metabolites, related to disease symptoms appearance in E. urophylla seedlings was also observed.Downloads
