Abstract

This paper has the aim to study the origin and distribution of the cortical branches from caudal cerebral artery (cca) in 25 monkey’s encephalon’s (Cebus apella), which died naturally, injected with coloured latex fixed in formaldehyde solution at 10% to further dissection using light misoscopy. The right and left cca are terminal branches from the basilar artery (100%). These arteries were sub divided into segments: pre-communicating, post-communicating, temporal and cortical. We studied the cortical temporal branches from the cca in regions limited as: anterior temporal, 1 branch (29.16%), 2 branches (31.25%), 3 branches (8.33%), 4 branches (4.16%) and 5 branches (2.08%); middle temporal, 1 branch (37.5%), 2 branches (10.41%); posterior temporal, 1 branch (45.83%), 2 branches (27.08%); occipital region, 1 branch (47.91%) and 2 branches (10.41%); parietal region, 1 branch (2.08%). The branches destined for the middle temporal and posterior region were presented as long and good sized. The temporal and cortical segments from the cca presented a pattern of morphological stability since we did not find any anomalies.
