Cannibalism and territorial behavior of <em>trairão</em> fingerlings (<em>Hoplias lacerdae</em>) evaluation
Abstract
Aiming to evaluate cannibalism and territorial behavior trairao fingerlings were measured and divided into five length classes: I (11.16+0.68cm), 11 (8.66+0.60cm), III (6.33+0.60cm), IV (4.60+0.12cm), V (2.98+0.16cm). After being classified, the fingerlings were submitted to ten treatments, placing six of them (three from each class) into each aquarium. At the end of the experiment, the occurrence of cannibalism in the treatments containing fingerlings with greater difference of length was observed but this canibalism diminished as the sizes became similar. On cannibalism was observed among individuals of the same size. As for territorial behavior, it was observed that bigger fingerlings of the same size remained together in the same area in most observations and smaller fingerlings were seen scattered at the bottom of the aquariumsDownloads
