Abstract

The presence of some species of Candida was analyzed in saliva of individuals with: 1) prostheses and lesions; 2) with prostheses without lesions; 3) without prostheses and without lesions, relating with the capacity for biofilm production in Sabouraud dextrose broth medium with 8% of glucose determinate by spectrophotometric method. A total of 92 yeasts were isolated from the 220 patients: 24 (group 1), 24 (group 2) and 44 (group 3). C. albicans was isolated in 70% of the cases and C. non albicans in 30%. The most frequent biofilm production (64%) was showed by C. non albicans yeasts and the patient groups who presented greater percent in biofilm production was 1, 2 and 3 corresponding to 75, 63 e 57% respectively. These data support that biofilm production may be associated with infectious process caused by Candida species
