Changes in psycho-spiritual needs in patients with hypertension enrolled in a health center - doi: 10.4025/actascihealthsci.v34i1.8922

Abstract

The present research aimed to approach the occurrence of spiritual changes recorded by nurses during consultations to people with SAH in a health center located in a city in the State of Paraná. This was a descriptive and quantitative research focused on the population of hypertensive patients registered in the School Health Center (SHC) of a city located in the Northwestern Paraná State. From the 148 hypertensive patients enrolled, we used a sample of 110 medical records for data collection, through a systematic probabilistic sample. The study was conducted from June to July 2009, by researchers members of the Scientific Initiation Program from the Universidade Paranaense – UNIPAR, bound to the institutional research “Taking care of hypertensive patients: the nursing taxonomies used in a health center” and to the “Group of study on hypertension”, registered in the Directory of Research of the CNPQ. This study was funded by Universidade Paranaense – UNIPAR. To this research we just used data relative to changed psycho-spiritual HBN, such as, religious or theological, ethics and philosophy of life, included in the nursing evolution of the first consultation. From the 110 medical charts analyzed, in only 2 cases we registered changed psycho-spiritual needs, evidencing an occurrence in 1.8% of SAH patients. This work showed that changed psycho-spiritual needs are occurring at low percentage among the population target of this study, supposedly by a lack of nursing research focusing this type of change.
