Abstract

The social workers professional practice with families has been presented since the beginning of that profession, demanding of the professionals researching new and more efficient and effective ways of attending the family. The present study proposes to identify social workers family methodologies in institutions in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state, Brazil. Results show that professionals are directed, first of all, to assistance, second to the education and at last to research. The study shows professionals using eclectic frameworks. The instruments and techniques most used are forwarding, home visits, social study and social report. Social workers performance vary between disciplinary and interdisciplinary conducts. The authors verified that the family assistance involves fours steps; the family entering in the program, identification, attendance and discharge. Professionals emphasize the positive results and the importance to attend family as a whole.
