Abstract

This study aimed to identify situations potentially harmful to children's health during infancy in the familiar and school contexts. To gather the data in schools, an evaluation of the child's growth and health damages was performed; for the domestic context, 16 families were evaluated regarding familiar structure and genetic map. The main problems of the children's health were: malnutrition and skin integrity. Couples and their children composed most of the families. The number of rooms was insufficient for the number of people living in the home. Regarding the network of social aid, families searched public health units and particular people to aid in difficult situations. Thus, it became evident the importance of assessing the families’ reality to nursing, as a means of planning education practices in health, minimizing situations harmful to the child.
