Abstract

This study aimed to identify some characteristics of an elderly group who lives in a Southern Brazilian city, and also to understand their social representations concerning health and illness in oldness. Social Representation theory was used as theoretical reference, and the strategy to collect data included a structured interview, as well as Drawing-History Technique with Theme. The results were analyzed using the Thematic Analysis. In conclusion, the analyzed group is concerned with health and illness. They have a special way of thinking, feeling and acting upon health and illness phenomena coinciding with the group characteristics and the context in which they are inserted.

Possui graduação em Enfermagem pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina (1980) , especialização em Master em Gerontologia Social pela Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2001) , especialização em metod. do Ensino da Pesq. e da Assist. de Enf. pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1991) , mestrado em Enfermagem Fundamental pela Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto - USP (1996) e doutorado em Enfermagem Fundamental pela Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto_USP (2001) . Atualmente é Professor Adjunto-Nível B da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de Enfermagem , com ênfase em Enfermagem gerontológica. Atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Idoso-Cuidado Familiar, acidente vascular cerebral, família Currículo Lattes
