Risk factors in early weaning
Abstract
The causes of the interruption of breastfeeding and the elaboration of programs aimed at its prevention are provided. The methodology is based on data collection with the mothers as source, up to the third day of puerperium; after the fortieth day of puerperium; finally, on the twelfth week after childbirth. Research involved 57 patients divided into two groups: mothers with breastfed newborns and mothers with babies who were receiving other kind of food. The risk population in early weaning consisted of women with no defined marital status, living in houses with more than five rooms, whose pregnancy had not been planned. Prematurity of the child, the mother’s job or studies are among the causes for early weaning. Misconceptions concerning the mother’s milk seem to be the main cause (64.7%). Greater awareness on this theme could be developed with the risk group.Downloads
