<b>Patients with severe renal insuficiency in hemodialysis: meanings of experiences lived in the implementation of care</b> - DOI: 10.4025/actascihealthsci.v30i1.4399

Abstract

This was a qualitative study with the objective of characterizing the physical and psychoemotional changes that severe renal insufficiency can cause in the lifestyle of patients; describing perceptions and reactions of patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment and their forms of coping with their life condition. The data were gathered in a hemodialysis clinic in Fortaleza, Ceará, in 2006, through semi-structured interviews with eight patients. The analysis is based upon the following steps: reading, coding, grouping and construction of emerging categories that expressed the phenomenon studied. The subjects demonstrated suffering from the disease and the painful process of acceptance of the limitations the treatment imposed. Such evidence shows the importance of the problem and change in behaviors in the process of caring for these patients, aiding them in a coherent, responsible and humanized form, strengthening their quality of life.
