Assisting the family in basic care: facilities and difficulties which health professionals have to face - doi: 10.4025/actascihealthsci.v34i1.7624
Abstract
Current descriptive and qualitative analysis investigates the facilities and difficulties faced by Basic Care health professionals dealing with families. Data were collected by half-structured interviews with 39 health professionals in nine basic care units in Maringá, Paraná State, Brazil, between September and December 2006. Home-visiting was considered to be the main tool to the fulfillment of basic care. Whereas the main facility mentioned comprised the bond between health professionals and the family, the main difficulties consisted of lack of motor transport to the homes, incomplete teams and insufficient time for visits. Results show that health professionals were concerned with the establishing of bonds with families. Even though problems existed, they all agreed on the importance of family assistance which may highly contribute towards the treatment of diseases in the families and thus promoting professional assistance through family-health professionals co-responsibility.
