Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, make sure the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • To ensure the Blind Peer Review, the "Research Group" should not be cited in the article.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

Acta Scientiarum. Human and Social Sciences is published under the Open Access model and is therefore free for anybody to read and download, and to copy and disseminate according to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 policy. 

APCS (ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES) AND SUBMISSION CHARGES

Acta Scientiarum. Human and Social Sciences is free of any kind of submission/publication fees, thus the authors are not charged to publish with us.

POLICIES AGAINST PLAGIARISM AND BAD CONDUCT IN RESEARCH

In the wake of our tradition in excellence, we would like to inform collaborators on editorial improvements that foreground the integrity of articles published by the Acta Scientiarum. Following guidelines by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) stimulating the identification of the practice of plagiarism, bad practices, frauds, possible violations in Ethics and indicting, we would like to recommend the following:

1. Authors are invited to visit the COPE website http://publicationethics.org for information on authors and editors on Ethics in research;

2. Prior to submission of scientific articles, authors should follow the criteria below:

- articles that contain data acquisition or analysis and interpretation of data from other publications should refer to the latter explicitly and directly;

- articles with a critical review on the intellectual contents of other authors should duly quote the latter authors;

- all authors should attend to the authorship criteria of an unpublished article and no researcher involved in the investigation should be omitted from the list of authors;

- the definite approval of the article is the role of the respective editors and of the editorial board.

3. So that the above criteria could be complied with, the following procedures will be taken:

a)  Editors will evaluate manuscripts by CrossCheck system immediately after submission. Contents of the scientific articles will be evaluated to identify any sort of plagiarism, double submissions, already published articles and possible frauds in research;

b)  With these results in hand, the editors and the editorial board decide whether the manuscript is sent for the review of peers, who will also make their own evaluations;

c) After acceptance and prior to publication, the article may again be assessed.

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

1.  Acta Scientiarum. Human and Social Sciences, ISSN 1807-8656 (online), is published Quarterly a year by the Universidade Estadual de Maringá, Maringá PR Brazil.

2. The journal publishes original papers in area of Human and Social Sciences. As a reference publication on its field, our journal requires the minimum degree of  doutor for the authors interested in publishing with us.

3.  Author(s) should state that the manuscript, reporting original work, was not sent, in part or in whole, for publication to another scientific journal. This statement may be found at http:// periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/ActaSciHumanSocSci/about/submissions.

4.  Papers are expected to be based on the most advanced theories and research. Reports are expected to be based on the most advanced techniques appropriate for the experiments. When applicable, a certificate by the Committee for Ethics and Bio-security is mandatory. 

5.  Data, concepts, opinions and the preciseness of works cited are the author’s/ authors’ entire responsibility.

6.  Papers are published in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French or Italian. They must be concise and consistent in style.

7.  Articles shall be evaluated by the Editorial Board of the review and, if approved, will be sent to referees, renowned for their research in their specific field of knowledge and hailing from universities inBrazil or abroad. After appropriate corrections and possible suggestions, the article will be accepted for publication if two of the referees’ reports are favorable; it will not be accepted if two peer reviews are unfavorable. Ties are the sole responsibility of the Editorial Board.

8.  Articles are to be sent via Internet through the ACTA homepage at http://www.periodicos.uem.br/ojs/

9.  Formatting and conventions are as below:

a) On submission the full name(s) of the author(s) (three at the most), her/his/their institutional address(es) and the e-mail of the author for correspondence should be inserted.

b) Articles must include: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Conclusion/Final considerations and References/ Works cited.

c) The title, with no more than 20 words, in Portuguese and in English, must be precise. A running title with no more than six words may be provided.

d) The abstract (not exceeding 200 words) should contain information about the aim of the investigation, theory, methods, results and conclusions. Up to six key words must be provided at the end of both abstracts in Portuguese and in English and should not include words found in the title.

e) Papers should not exceed 20 pages, including figures, tables and list of references. The paper should be edited in Word for Windows, using Times New Roman 12pt font. Pages should be numbered and main text in 1.5 line spacing.

f)  Paper format should be A4 paper, with all page margins at2.5 cm.

g) File containing the article to be transferred during submission should not exceed 2MB, and should have no identification label of the author, including in the option properties of Word.

h) Tables and figures should be included in the text.

i)  Figures and tables should be preferentially7.65 cm wide, not exceeding 16 cm.

j)  Digitalized figures should have a 300 dpi resolution and preferentially recorded in jpg or png. Illustrations in color are not accepted for publication.

k) Annexes and foot notes should be avoided.

l) Citations should follow the examples below, based on norms of the American Psychological Association (APA). For citation within the text, insert surname and year: Paes (2014) or (Paes, 2014); for two authors: Veiga and Santos (2008) or (Veiga & Santos, 2008); for three or more authors insert the first author followed by et al.: Fragoso et al. (2000) or (Fragoso et al., 2000).

SELF-CITATIONS
The journal accepts a maximum rate of 5% of self-citations.

REFERENCE MODELS

References should be given in alphabetical order, with left alignment, according to the following examples based on norms by the American Psychological Association (APA). List all authors. Titles of journals should be given in their entire, without the place of publication.
