Abstract

Located in south Uberlândia-MG, Patrimônio’s neighborhood reveals some social specificities. Established at the end of nineteenth century, its history is characterized by the difficulties faced by its inhabitants, such as the lack of urban equipment and strong prejudice. Amongst the ways of living in the place, we focused on the festivities. Through Folias de Reis, Carnavais e Ternos de Moçambique (Congadas), they build logics shared upon trade and donations within the neighborhood, (re)affirming pacts for the continuity of life. In the installation of new nexus, towards the production of revalued spaces for the middle classes, territorial tensions are established as to its uses and appropriations. With the possibility of being destituded of its territories, its traditional residents reinvented some of their residue, especially the festivities. The materialization of these festivities manifests itself in the condition of territorial acts: actions, seasonal or not, with the purpose of (re)establishing territorialities, being those oneiric or concrete. Those festivities reaffirm the existence of subjects and allow them to reinvent themselves in order to continue to live in/from the place in those contexts of change they are enclosed.
