Abstract

This paper is a reflection on the possible relationships between Frege’s theory of logic and Platonism, which strongly influenced Noam Chomsky’s modern linguistics. In the field of philosophy of language, this paper intends to arouse the interest in epistemology - very important to understand different concepts of language and very helpful to both undergraduate and graduate students involved in this subject. In the course of the paper, the relationship between the world of ideas, logic and semantics are clarified. Therefore it is divided into three sections - besides introduction and conclusion: first, a general picture with the principles of Plato’s theory is provided; second, the concepts of language according to philosophy are discussed and finally the relationship between Plato and Frege, and the recurrence of their theories in transformational grammar are established.

Possui graduação em Letras - Habilitação em Português pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1998), mestrado em Lingüística pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2000) e doutorado em Estudos da Linguagem pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina (2008), com estágio doutoral na Université ParisIII - La Sorbonne Nouvelle. Atualmente é professor auxiliar da Faculdade de Jandaia do Sul.
