Lima Barreto and the criticism (1900-1922): the conspiracy of silence
Abstract
The relationship between the carioca writer Afonso Henriques de Lima Barreto and the criticism of that time with special regard to the dissident traits of his work and his place in the intellectual milieu between 1909 and 1922 is discussed in this article. One of the signs of disagreement between the novelist and the critics of his time may be observed in the barrier of silence built around his literary work, revealing the resistance of the dominant thinking to his purpose of unmasking the literary elite.Downloads
