Abstract

An analysis of the ideas of José Veríssimo (1857-1916) is significant and relevant since this late 19^th Century author still has followers, in spite of the idealistic character of his propositions for a national education system and his commitment to an old-fashioned theoretical stance. The aim of this analysis is to understand the reasons for his success among current educators.

Author Biography

Ivana Veraldo, UEM

Possui graduação em Pedagogia pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1984), mestrado em Educação pela Universidade Estadual de Maringá (1994) e doutorado em História pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2003). Atualmente é rofessor adjunto da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em História da Educação e políticas públicas educacionais, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: educação, são paulo, brasil, história e 1797-1802 e políticas públicas educacionais no Brasil, Maringá e região metropolitana. Atua como pesquisadora do Observatório das Metrópoles, núcleo Maringá Currículo Lattes
