Care and the city: reflections on the environment and urban territories from the care perspective

Abstract

This essay attempts to present some reflections on care from a broader perspective, demonstrating its centrality to the critical understanding of the current ecological and civilizational crisis, as well as in the formulation of alternatives to overcoming urban socio-environmental problems. It is based on the perspective that care is not only a set of actions limited to the socio-familial matrix but also at the level of social relations and humanity with nature. The idea is defended that overcoming the current crisis requires the consideration of care as a central value. It is concluded that it is necessary to put care, the environment, and peripheral territories at the center of concerns in the process of formulating actions and implementing public policies.
