Internal migrations in Brazil: from training centers for research to the Legal Amazon - the professors of the Federal University of Tocantins

Keywords: Migration, Tocantins, Teachers, Job

Abstract

Located in the legal Amazon, the state of Tocantins presents in the last years a demographic growth which is above the national average, resulting in a migratory interest point for the region. On the discussions concerning migratory movements some factors can be pointed out among attractiveness variables: agricultural borders and different typologies of public policies are among them and can be verified in the State. Discoursing on such variables, it was aimed to demonstrate the migratory flow of high qualified workforce, of teachers to the northern Brazil region, more specifically to the Federal University of Tocantins. It was considered the aforementioned factors comparing them with the spatial distribution of the stricto sensu post-graduation programs in Brazil. As source it were used the administrative records made available by the Pró-Reitoria de Gestão e Desenvolvimento de Pessoas of UFT, as well as data available on the digital platform GEOCAPES (CAPES Georeferenced Information System). It was concluded that the teacher migratory movement to the university in question fits on what the literature classifies as new Brazilian migratory movements, that is, workers that move from south, southeast, northeast and center-west regions to the north of Brazil seeking better occupations and income and that controls, by means of migration and qualification, their life conditions.
