Identification of summerics for local management of water resources: case study in Apodi municipality, Rio Grande do Norte - Brazil

Keywords: Extreme events, Drought, Water resources management, Family agricultural production

Abstract

The occurrence of extreme climatic events, whether intense rainfall or prolonged scarcity of rainfall, is part of the natural control of some ecosystems and, its knowledge becomes essential to the management of water resources. Thus, the rhythmic analysis of the climate that considers the simultaneous study of the fundamental elements of the climate, can be an important instrument to know and understand the atmospheric processes that act and / or characterize the climate of a certain region. Thus, this article aims to present the occurrence of veranicos from the rhythmic analysis in order to demonstrate how this type of analysis can be useful when planning water resources management actions in the semiarid region. For this, the research characterized as a case study, is based on a bibliographic review and uses information from the National Institute for Space Research - INPE and the free software RitmoAnálise (version 2.2l) for application of climate data for the five-year period from 2013 to 2017, referring to the municipality of Apodi, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte - Brazil. As a result, it is indicated that although historically the rainfall in this municipality has been concentrated between the months of February to May, it is considered important to monitor local climatic factors for water management since the rainfall is not constant over the days of these months and, its association with the factors temperature, air humidity and momentary atmospheric pressure end up being responsible for the event of summer, which cause socioeconomic losses mainly, for family-agricultural production of corn and cowpeas.
