Geodiversity and sites of geological and geomorphological interest of the municipality of São Miguel do Tapuio, Piauí, Brazil
Abstract
In Piauí State, studies that deal with geodiversity and related themes still do not satisfactorily meet the need for knowledge, conservation, and protection of the abiotic nature of the State. In this context, this article carried out a survey of the geodiversity and the geological/geomorphological heritage of the municipality of São Miguel do Tapuio, Piauí, Northern Central region of the State. The methodology used was organized as follows: (i) survey and analysis of the theoretical framework; (ii) office work and (iii) field work with the application of inventory forms based on the methodology of Oliveira (2015). Six sites of geological/geomorphological interest were identified, evaluated qualitatively, and characterized. Besides the geotouristic potential, one also realized the didactic importance of these sites, being therefore relevant for field practices, and thus, being possible to discuss and teach a variety of themes and phenomena related to various contexts such as geological, geomorphological, hydrological, archaeological and others. In view of the geological-geomorphological places of interest in the municipality of São Miguel do Tapuio and considering the low economic dynamics of the municipality based on agriculture and livestock, it is recommended to implement strategies on a sustainable basis, such as the use of these areas for geotourism, as a way of to promote the generation of income for the citizens and thus perhaps improve their quality of life. There is a need for a more active participation of municipal management, through actions that can sensitize the population, and the management itself to become aware of the municipality's geodiversity and the existing tourist potential.
