Traditional wooden houses and the production of space in Curitiba-PR (2001-2023)
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the transformation of urban space in Curitiba-PR, with an emphasis on traditional wooden houses. The 1919 Code of Ordinances, a legislative instrument that defined the rules of land use in the city, contributed to the production of a landscape shaped by segregation, in which wooden houses were excluded due to their construction material. Sampling showed that in recent decades, the production of urban space in Curitiba has been linked to a mercantile and speculative logic, evidenced in urban voids, i.e. underutilized land that is gradually replacing traditional houses. In this sense, based on the regressive-progressive method proposed by Henri Lefebvre - which advocates returning to past conditions as a tool capable of decoding material configurations imprinted on the geographic space of the present - this work seeks to understand, from traditional houses, the transformation of Curitiba's urban landscape between 2001-2023.
