Abstract

The Campo Mourão urbanization began in the mid-1940s in an area covered by savannas. The city was built on the area where such vegetation was once abundant. With the growth of city vegetation was restricted to small islands scattered and isolated in remote areas. The concern for preservation of vegetation made in 1987 was created the Ecological Station of the Cerrado de Campo Mourão (±13 000 m2), amid the urban site. Given the above this study evaluated the distribution of five species typical of the cerrado: Stryphnodendron adstringens, Brosimum gaudichaudii, Annoma crassiflora, Copaifera langsdorffii and Caryocar brasiliense in the urban area of Campo Mourão, the results indicated that the development of these species are occurring only near the Ecological Station and S. adstringens is the species most degraded on account of its medicinal properties.
