The number of cases of HIV positive pregnant women in Brazil was 54.218 from 2000-2010. Pregnancy in the context of HIV/AIDS is permeated by dilemmas. This study investigated the issue from the perspective of women with HIV/AIDS in order to understand the meanings of motherhood. A qualitative study, following the assumptions of Social Research, a non-governmental institution in Goiânia-GO, through semi-structured interview. A total of ten women with HIV / AIDS who became pregnant being diagnosed with the disease. For analysis we used the method of interpretation of meaning and the following categories were obtained: Differentiated attitudes; Reconstruction of the female universe, self- care to live. In general, motherhood enabled to reframe their lives to promote changes in their worldview and behavior in order to become role models for their children. Thus, we find that the meaning of motherhood for women with HIV / AIDS is surrounded by feelings of autonomy and the child is a synonym of hope for the reconstruction of their lives.
